New resident seeks to join SRA

Here is an encouraging email received from a new resident which we thought we should share with all residents. The full name and address of the sender was provided and we have removed them for privacy reasons.

Hi the SRA Committee,

We are from No.x Jalan xyz, Taman Bukit Seputeh.

Having moved in since Sept 08, we are happy with Seputeh with its quietness, greenery and the friendly neighbours.
Seputeh is special as it's not like the closed-by commercialised neighbourhood filled with shops, restaurants and traffic. However it still could not run away from having the same problems just like anywhere else - increasing crime rate..
Coming from a small family with a young son, we care and constantly worry for our loved ones. We are therefore fully supportive of a paid security scheme.
This has proven to be an effective deterrent in keeping our home away from the criminals and reducing the crime rates.
A good example is Seri Petaling which used to be popular with the 'Parang Gang' that was every resident's fear, recently implemented the similar scheme by recruiting security personnel to guard the neighbourhood and keep a close watch on cars & new faces in and out of the area 24 hours.
By each household footing out RM60 every month, the residents now have good night sleep every day. This scheme will definitely be easier to be implemented in Seputeh since we have limited entrances / exits for getting in and out.
On the issue of not everyone agreeing to pay for the scheme, could I suggest the following adopted by Seri Petaling residents - have every house who is under the scheme labeled with the special stickers on their gates indicating their respective allocated no.
Therefore houses without the special stickers - sorry no attention will be given to you by the guards during any incidents whatsoever.
Hope my above suggestion could be considered and looking forward to SRA implementing the security scheme real soon.
P/S please advise where to obtain a SRA registration form. Thanks and have a nice day.

Mr and Mrs <>name provided>

We responded to that by inviting her to join this Saturday's Residents' Day and to sign up there and then. We may drop a form in her post-box sooner as well.

  1. I noted the writer had listed 3 items that matters to them, which I guess are also the priorities of many other Seputeh residents:
    (1) Security and overall safety - Security issue is the top agenda as seen from the publicity in SSTF(Seputeh Security Task Force)website and this SRA blog. Rightly so, as much work is involved for the security scheme to take off. In some other places, security schemes have been successful and useful tips could also be learnt from those that have failed or since abandoned.
    (2) Quietness, greenery and friendly neighbourhood - It's imperative we study too the many contributions from the past SRA (Seputeh Residents' Association) committee, coz I realise the exclusivity of this area did not happen naturally. On the contrary, it too took a lot of hard work and sacrifice from their part. Housing developments in this area were encouraged instead of high rise buildings that could increase the population density and traffic in Seputeh. I heard a commercial developer once awarded huge contract to a previous committee member which was eventually cancelled when he refused to budge his stance on Seputeh issues.
    (3) Family well-being - Let's hope item no 1 and no 2 could be sustain on the long-term for the benefit of all Seputeh folks.
BTW, I moved to Taman Seputeh six years ago and was never elected to the SRA committee, but worked with them as a project coordinator since last year in slope issues affecting my neighbourhood.

  2. Thank you, Rosie.
Please continue to contribute your time and effort to SRA.
    We value your feedback.
This committee has four ways of getting feedback: email, fax, hard copy via letter box at 2, Jln Teluk Pulai, and through comments on this blog.

  3. Dear SRA Committee blog,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I am glad we share the views that the past and present SRA committee play significant roles in the general well-being of Seputeh folk. In addition, cooperation and constructive feed back from the Seputeh residents themselves are important to the committee. Enjoy yourselves at the Seputeh Residents' Day!
BTW, I'm printing a copy of this blog page for my fellow project coordinator, Mr Foong (past SRA Asst Secretary), as I give him updates on internet informaton. Despite the nitty gritty stuff one may encounter, the whole picture is a pleasant reminder.
